Footscray is one of the internal western suburbs of Melbourne, only around 5km from the Central Business District. The local government in the area is the City of Maribyrnong. With a population of around 16,345 people, this location is brimming with diverse and multi-cultural characters. The environment used to be a hub for the Italian, Greek and Yugoslavian migrants of the region, and it continues to be an incredibly different and unique location today.
Food: The food in Footscray is packed full of amazing flavours and delicious creations to explore. You’ll find a wide selection of Vietnamese restaurants along Hopkin’s Street, as well as a handful of Asian grocers too. There are also plenty of African restaurants and bakeries to explore too. One of the most notable restaurants of the destination is the Station Hotel, which won the “Pub of the Year” title from 3AW. Education: Looking for a place where you can raise your little ones? Footscray has plenty to offer when it comes to education. There are five different kindergartens available, including Bulldog Community Child Care Centre, Hyde Street Kindergarten, and Angliss Children’s centre. For primary schools, you’ve also got plenty of additional options, such as Footscray North Primary School, St John’s Catholic Primary School, St Monica’s Primary School, and Footscray City Primary School, among others. Secondary schools include Gilmore Girl’s College and Footscray City College.
Further education: For University or TAFE education, Victoria University at Footscray Park is nearby, offering a range of ways for young adults to build on their academic achievements. You can also explore opportunities like the Austwide institute of training, or the Leonie Khoury School of Music.
Homes: There are some genuinely fantastic homes to explore in Footscray, including those with period designs and classic veneers still in place. However, development in the area also means that this suburb is an excellent place to find a modern new apartment complex if you’re looking for something modern. Close to the Maribyrnong, you’ll find a host of renovated warehouses, townhouses, and other destinations. If you want a suburb closer to the city with excellent transport and delicious restaurants, Footscray is the place to be.
People: You’ll find plenty of young people in Footscray, whether it’s students, or people looking to build a new life for themselves. You’ll also find a host of older independent people drawn to the area too, living alongside older locals.
